The following is a general guide to assist individuals and legal counsel following an aviation accident.

  • Seek professional assistance for emotional and physiological guidance.
There is no substitute for the foundation provided by trained professionals and experts who are best suited to assist you in dealing with your loss.

  • Beware of victims groups and organizations.
Most are in need of money and lack the expertise as claimed.  Additionally, many have arrangements with attorneys who in some instances lack the experience of more formidable law firms.

Conversely, in many instances victims of a particular accident form their own group and membership is encouraged.  The Federal Family Assistance Program for Aviation Disasters is available through the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and is highly recommended.

  • Surround yourself with those you are close to and trust.
Emotional and psychological stresses diminish the decision-making process.  Surround yourself with those you are close to and trust to protect you and provide support in the decision-making process.

  • Obtain legal counsel.
Most matters are regulatory and legal in nature and are beyond the scope of the average individual.  Those you know and trust are best suited to protect you and your well being, even if only in the interim until more experienced counsel can be obtained.  It is recommended that you research the final decision thoroughly and select a firm experienced and successful in aviation litigation.

  • Do not speak to the authorities or the airline.
Their interest is to protect themselves and minimize their liability. Allow counsel to handle all communications and questioning to ensure legitimacy.  If counsel is unfamiliar with aviation disasters they may contact us for assistance at no charge.
